I saw this book in a book shop and read the back cover, having grown up in Sydney and knowing of Kings Cross thought I would really like to read this book.What brave souls this husband and wife are, and Samantha your courage and determination is awe inspiring you are a true hero in my eyes.
Laurance you are the most amazing man a true gentleman and a tremendous husband. To all of your colleagues who supported you and worked so hard to catch the offender I say to every one of you a truly great job you should all be very proud of yourselves and I'm sure Samantha & Laurance are. Well done Samantha you have restored my faith in the NSW police force.

A wonderful book, sensitively written & most difficult to put down. Both husband & wife are an inspiration. It is such a pity that they are both lost to our Police Force.
Hard to believe these terrible things happen to people especially police force good story line very sad and disturbing story
wow, what an amazing woman!!! not to mention her fantastic husband!! absolutely fantastic book, heart breaking to read of her injuries but inspiring to read of her recovery and strength, highly recommend this book!! well done to you Barlow family!!
A story of a very inspirational woman and a supportive husband, the courage they have shown retelling this story is unbelievable. Once you start to read this book you won't want to put it down until you are finished. Sam you deserved all the awards you received and so much more. You both did a fantastic job servicing the community as police officers and I wish you all the happiness in the world whilst you spend time with your young family.
ThIs is a truely amazing story of how a person can survive the worst possible situation through sheer strength of will and the unfailing support of her husband, family, work colleagues and friends.
The authors do such a good job of telling this story and explaining each person's role clearly throughout the entire book.
I can't recommend this book highly enough.
I would also highly recommend the story of the disappearance and trial of Peter Falconio - "And then the Darkness", which is also written by Sue Williams.
People of the calibre of this couple are few and far between in this day and age. Sam and Laurence are just so incredibly inspiring that I believe this book should be on the reading list for HSC students. I thoroughly enjoyed reading their amazing journey to Hell and back. Good on 'em!
I recommend it to everyone to read
I find it hard to put into words this read. It will leave you crying and on edge wanting to read more and find out how Samantha and her husband Laurence cope with this. Just makes you mad at what some people can do to others for a measly amount. What a true hero Samantha is. As the title states resilient and courageous - both Samantha and Laurence. I can not believe Samantha was able to overcome the injuries and go back to work. Makes you realise how you should be grateful for every day and not complain when ill, as someone else is probably worse. Such an inspiring people Samantha and Laurence are. Great read.
